Suspected DUI driver arrested after striking police vehicle, leading officers on chase
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) —
Officers arrested a suspected DUI driver Tuesday after he crashed into a Bakersfield police service technician truck.
Officers were called to a traffic collision around 2:15 p.m. on Brundage Lane and Chester Avenue.
Officers found two separate traffic collisions when they arrived.
Sgt. Mike Gerrity said while officers were investigating those collisions, one of the drivers involved in a crash drove away, hitting a police service technician's truck in the process.
That driver was identified as 40-year-old Johnnie Moore. Officers found Moore's vehicle a short time later near Cottonwood Road and Highway 58.
Moore then led officers on a pursuit, which ended a short time later when Moore abandoned his vehicle on the 1400 block of Cheatham Avenue.
Gerrity said officers believe Moore was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.
One of the people involved in the original traffic collisions was taken to the hospital for a complaint of pain. Only minor injuries were reported for everyone else.
