Three weeks after Election Day, Bakersfield tax measure still has a shot

Measure N – the effort to raise the sales tax in Bakersfield for first responders – may still have a chance.

Though it seemed the measure had been defeated on Nov. 6, it is now within 14 votes of being passed.

The measure needs a simple majority to pass and with the tallying of mail-in ballots continuing, the count is 45,576 against and 45,563 for, on the Kern County Election website.

The website says these are the “unofficial final results as of 11/26/2018 4:31:29 PM.”

But there may still be mail-in ballots left to count.

State law requires county elections officials to report their final results to the Secretary of State by Dec. 7.
