Officers arrested a pair of men Friday night in connection with a west Bakersfield shooting.

Officers were called out around 10:30 p.m. to the 3700 block of Stockdale Highway after neighbors heard gunshots.

They noticed a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed and decided to stop the car.

Once the car was stopped, police said the passenger, 29-year-old Pedro Torrez, got out and attempted to run from them.

Officers were able to catch Torrez a short time later and arrest him. They found Torrez in possession of a gun.

The driver of the car, 27-year-old Justin Haynes, was also arrested.

An investigation revealed that a shooting had happened on the 100 block of Candy Street, however no victims were found.

Torrez and Haynes were both taken into custody on suspicion of firearms violations and participation in a criminal street gang.
