A horse that was badly injured in the Cottonwood Fire last month was transported last week to the University of California, Davis for further treatment.

Bakersfield woman Taylor Bartley volunteered many hours to his care after his owner was unable to pay for his treatment and unwilling to euthanize him.

"The Boss," as he's come to be called, was featured in a Nov. 2 story on Eyewitness News.

Their story traveled quickly, and she was approached by the university about bringing him to Northern California, where the school operates the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

Bartley reports that veterinarians there are optimistic he will make a full recovery.
