Volunteers give 100-year-old schoolhouse a facelift

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Volunteers are painting historic Standard School on the grounds of the Kern County Museum.

Sturgeon Services International workers are prepping the school Wednesday and will paint it Thursday, donating their time and materials, according to museum foundation executive director Roger Perez.

The schoolhouse was designed in 1911 and was originally located on Oil Center Road, according to the museum. It was built on land donated by Standard Oil Co. in response to a population surge following oil discovery near the Kern River in 1899.

Sturgeon Services International provides construction and maintenance services for oilfield companies, according to its website.
