BAKERSFIELD, Calif., (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place Sunday morning in a retirement community.
Police said they were called around 9 a.m. to the Pinewood Glen Retirement Community to check on the welfare of one of the residents.
When they arrived, they found a woman with major injuries and her roommate, who was identified as Sandra Bonertz, who claimed she had assaulted the woman and was still holding the suspected murder weapon.
The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died due to her injuries.
Officers were able to disarm Bonertz without any incident and further investigation found Bonertz committed the attack sometime during the previous evening.
She was taken and booked into the Kern County jail.
