Woman who went to CSUB killed in Vegas mass shooting

Melissa Ramirez, who her cousin says via social media was killed in the mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas, is seen in her Facebook profile photo. Ramirez attended California State University, Bakersfield, according to her profile.

A fifth person with a connection to Kern County was killed in Sunday night's mass shooting at a Las Vegas music festival.

Melissa Ramirez graduated from California State University, Bakersfield. A person on Facebook, identifying themselves as Ramirez's cousin, confirmed the death Tuesday.

Ramirez's Facebook page shows she's from Littlerock, California, and lived in North Hollywood.

Around 60 people were killed when a gunman unleashed a barrage of bullets at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. More than 500 were injured, including more than 10 people from Kern County.

Eyewitness News has confirmed that four other people with local connections were killed in the shooting: Kelsey Meadows, Jack Beaton, Bailey Schweitzer and Victor Link.

CSUB President Horace Mitchell released a statement on Ramirez's death:

“We are terribly saddened to learn that we lost a member of our CSUB family in this senseless act of violence. Our entire CSUB campus community is heartbroken, and we send our deepest sympathies to Melissa Ramirez’s family and friends.”

Ramirez graduated from CSUB in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
