Airbnb helps connect those displaced by Hurricane Harvey to free temporary homes

SAN ANTONIO (KABB/WOAI) - Airbnb is offering to help those having to evacuate their homes because of Hurricane Harvey.

In events like this, Airbnb's Disaster Response Program connects local residents who have been displaced by a major weather event to temporary accommodations with local Airbnb hosts who are opening their homes free of charge.

The program is being offered in San Antonio, Dallas and Austin until Sept. 1.

"Today, Airbnb activated our Disaster Response Program to assist residents in Texas evacuating coastal areas ahead of Hurricane Harvey. Through our program, those in need of temporary accommodations as a result - including emergency relief workers and volunteers - are able to connect with Airbnb hosts in the San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas areas who are opening their homes free of charge from now through Sept. 1.

"We encourage hosts in safe, inland areas to aid in this effort by listing their available rooms or homes on the platform to help the growing number of evacuees. Our thoughts continue to be with everyone in the path of the storm, and we thank the dedicated government and emergency response personnel who are keeping our communities safe."
