VIDEO: Hixson, Tennessee man forced to drive off road to avoid head-on collision
HIXSON, Tenn. (WTVC) — A Hixson man says he had to make a life or death decision in a split second while driving, and his truck's dashcam shows what happened.
Jake Ketterer says he was going to a meeting when a car driving in the wrong lane forced him to run off the road.
It happened on the 5300 block of Cassandra Smith Road in Hixson Wednesday afternoon.
In the video, you can see the silver car cross the double yellow line into his lane.
Ketterer immediately ran off the road, crashing into a speed limit sign and a tree.
"I made the choice to drive off the road," Ketter told us Thursday. "I'm here today with my family. I came home and hugged my baby, hugged my wife, and every time I look at that video I'm like, wow, it was so fast. It was so fast and anything could have happened yesterday."
To make the situation worse, Ketterer says the driver didn't stop.
"They knew what they did and they kept going. That's what gets me the most," he said. "They need to be held responsible for what they did."
"I want them to know that I'm okay. They didn't take the time or care if I was. They didn't care about the sacrifice I made to my truck so that they could live or not be harmed," he said.
Ketterer tells us he has some pain in his wrist, but is otherwise okay. His truck was towed from the scene.
Chattanooga Police have seen the dashcam video, and are looking for the driver.
