Michael Patterson

After several years of traveling up the state of California, Michael Patterson headed back to SoCal. Joining the Bakersfield Now team as an Evening Anchor in March of 2023, bringing with him nearly four years of professional broadcast experience. Michael is more excited than he has ever been to become a part of the Bakersfield community.

In 2019, Michael graduated with a Broadcast Journalism degree from California State University Fullerton. Shortly after Michael headed up to Chico, CA to work as a Morning News Reporter with KRCR. There, he reported on the recovery of the Town of Paradise after it was devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire that killed 85 people. His most recent stop included nearly three years in Eureka, CA working as a News Director and Anchor with KAEF. Michael moved to the North Coast in the early months of the COVID-19 and held public officials accountable on their messaging surrounding the virus.

Though his career may still be in its infancy, Michael has learned that there is beauty in every community and that every person has a story to tell. He believes that it is the responsibility of journalists to empower their communities to make more informed decisions about the world around them.

When he is not in the newsroom Michael is usually watching sports, working out, or playing video games. As a self-proclaimed nerd, Michael enjoys learning about superfan cultures and sharing his dorky interests with others. Michael is especially a fan of the Los Angeles Football Club, San Diego Padres and Formula 1 racing. He also enjoys a nice beer.
